The popularity for Germany as a destination among highly-skilled workers from non-EU countries has been rising steadily in the past, thanks in particular to the EU Blue Card scheme. In 2019, the number of people from non-EU countries arriving in Germany using a Blue Card rose by 14.6% compared to the previous year. Even more interesting for us is that fact that nearly a quarter (25%) of all the issued Blue Cards in 2019 went to Indians!👏
Another interesting fact is that more than 82% of all Blue Cards issued in Europe since the scheme was introduced in the European Union in 2012 have been issued in Germany. Attracting skilled talent is an important item on the agenda of the German government and so far their efforts seem to be paying off.
Moreover, those who have lived and worked in Germany for at least 5 years can apply for a permanent residence permit. The number of people who took advantage of this possibility last year increased by almost 20% compared to 2018. These statistics were released by the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
